Don't Let The Memory Of Them Drift Away

| Greetings!
To all our men and women currently serving in the United States of America Military, and to all that served in the past, and to all that gave their all; THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!! The Beginning.... I have always wanted to pay tribute to our veterans, especially those of the Vietnam War and for a couple of years I pestered one of my friends that served in Vietnam to let me have at his photo album and scan some of the photos so I can start a web site. He finally gave in and I agreed that it wouldn't be just about him, but all those that served with Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines. By the evening of May 7, 2000 I had Delta15.com online with a few photos. I started to search for other members of D 1/5 and by December had located over 100 of them, reuniting many of them for the 1st time in over 30 years. Delta15.com started to grow quickly and many grunts would mail me their photos, and I would scan them in and mail them back. With the website, over 230 have been located, or checked in and with over 3,000 image files, it gives you a new perspective on the Vietnam War. The website and my project has helped many of these veterans and has even been used for proof a veteran needed to show he served in Vietnam because records where lost but the images of him spoke thousands of words. This project has definitely been a roller coaster ride and it introduced me to PTSD up close and allowed me to see, that there are so many out there that still have not been welcomed home or are missing. To all that served in Vietnam, WELCOME HOME!!!!! 2003 Start of Iraq War.... When the war with Iraq became imminent, I predicted the start of it and 2 days before started the website IraqWarHeroes.com with the purpose of paying tribute to all our heroes that would give their all. Modern technology gave me the tools to make this a tribute site that will allow others to see and know whose these heroes are. I also started 031903.com where I posted documents, facts sheets, news headlines, and other things related to the first part of the war. Headlines are still being posted by me. That web site has over 7,000 Pages. In July of 2003 I attended the first military funeral of one of our local heroes that I was allowed to photograph. I did this with a floppy disc camera. By December 18, 2005 I had attended 29 funerals and photographed them when permitted. After photographing the funeral, I would select a few to put on the heroes' tribute page and create a CD with photos that I send to the family at no cost to them..... Our Heroes... It's full time work... I have now been to over 140 funerals in the NW, Logged the names of 3569 and answered countless of emails. So, here are some of the things I'm doing to accomplish my mission, to remind people of our war heroes and who they are. IraqWarHeroes.org 1. Ad names and pages daily as they come in. This is all done manually by me. I update every day unless I'm at a funeral out of town. 2. I attend funerals in the NW for our heroes. I stick with the NW because that's about as far as my car makes it and I can scrounge gas for. 3. I photograph the funerals when permitted. Including travel time, on location time, working the photos, I spend 8 to 23 hours on a service. Currently I have distributed over 18,000 selected photos to the families. (Selected are photos I picked, cropped, adjusted etc. out of all photos shot at the funerals) 4. I answer emails from family and friends of our heroes and post their comments and photos on the tribute pages. 5. I go on 10k walks wearing a vest with my two lines "Don't Let The Memory Of Them Drift Away www.IraqWarHeroes.org" and I photograph on these walks and post the photos in lots of 50 on the web for anyone to enjoy, and below each photo, there is a reminder to remember our fallen heroes. I have over 20,000 photos online. 6. I mail and hand out postcards. 2 years ago I mailed all members of the Senate and the House a card and this year I'm doing it again. I've completed the Senate and about half of the House. I mail them as I have stamps available. Since I started to do the postcards, I have mailed or handed out over 6,000 of them and over 5,000 business card sized cards. With every opportunity I have, I leave a card with someone, someplace. 7. I remind the local media often of our heroes. Sometimes they even interview me, most of the time they ignore me. National media won't even answer my emails. I get on radio and read of the names of our local heroes. I've even ran some ads. You can download video and audio at IraqWarHeroes.org. 8. I belong to a variety of online groups dedicated to our military and post regularly updates, photos and my blog of what I've been doing. 9. There is more.... Other Projects 1. OperationJustCause.org Dedicated to those that lost their lives in the Panama operations. 2. VietnamWarHeroes.org is Delta15.com remade to include others that served in Vietnam. It's an ongoing project. 3. KoreanWarHeroes.org It's still small, but it's a site paying tribute to Korean War Heroes. If you know one, get me the information, photos etc. The site honors both living and deceased. 4. WWIIWarHeroes.org It's still small, but it's a site paying tribute to WWII War Heroes. If you know one, get me the information, photos etc. The site honors both living and deceased. 5. WWIWarHeroes.org It's still small, but it's a site paying tribute to WWI War Heroes. If you know one, get me the information, photos etc. The site honors both living and deceased.
As soon as I have the proper equipment, I would like to start meeting War Veterans at their local hangouts like a VFW hall and have them bring their photos which I will scan in and take down basic info and their stories and ad them to the website. I'm encouraging relatives of a deceased war hero to do the same, bring me the old photos to scan in etc. I believe 1 man can make a difference... Imagine that 1 man with some help?
